Marking Nineteen Years of Cancer Free Life
I’m celebrating a milestone! Woo hoo!! I praise God for all the blessings and miracles in my life!! Nineteen years ago today, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I fought the hardest battle and by God’s grace, I’ve beaten the dreadful disease with flying colours. It wasn’t easy overcoming fears and anxieties but with prayers (loads of it!) I learnt to be optimistic and didn't give negative thoughts any chance of taking over my sanity. There’s no denying that cancer sucks! It keeps running amuck, indiscriminately hitting anyone, without prejudice to the most health conscious individuals. A number of people close to me have not been spared by this idiotic disease. Tough as she is, I am nevertheless confident that by God’s grace, the loved one is now traveling the road to absolute wellness. Our prayers are walking her through it! And for the cyber niece of mine who is currently threatened by the big C, I know she’s one tough girl too. I am praying for her as well, for her successful operation scheduled today. May this be the start of her complete healing!
Life may not always be perfect but it certainly is full of surprises. And mind you, there sure is a rainbow after the rain! Indeed, there is life after Cancer!
As I've mentioned, I’m celebrating my nineteen years cancer free life! There’s so much to be thankful for and my spirit is soaring high! Please join me in my celebration!

Be rest assured that although I may not be physically present to alleviate the hardships brought forth by the big C, I'm always with you in prayers and spirit! Praying as well that the list of friends and loved ones I am praying for won't increase any further!

Hi Ate Beng! I'm with you in praying not just for people we know but for EVERYONE whose lives are affected by this dreaded disease. Paulit ulit kong sinasabi...but reading how you beat the big C gives us all 'hopes' na nothing is impossible as long as you hold on to HIM.
Anong plano natin this weekend? Christmas shopping rush? Kami we might go to an event na pang Filipino...first time to see it. For sure maraming Filipino goods as well as kababayans dun kasi parang 'fair' yun with booths. Hopefully eh maganda ang panahon para di mabulilyaso.

Ay oo nga Huling, we should be praying for everyone who's been affected with this illness. My chemo mind missed to mention but they too are included. It's my pervent prayer that there'll be vaccine to prevent all kinds of cancer.
The truth, I'm not into Christmas shopping this time. Will pick some little things for give aways but just that. Walang malakihang shopping. Enjoy your shopping!

Sobrang na-in love kami sa place nyo! We're so impressed with the orderliness and peacefulness of the city. At lalo kaming impressed sa mga tao esp. our driver/tour guide, other taxi drivers, restaurants waiters and all others na pare-parehong considerate and helpful and friendly. Walang hindi mabait kaming nakaharap! Kudos sa inyong mga Davaoeños Vernz!

Wow, I just only noticed this post of yours tonight. I likewise doubt that you have yet noticed the post on my website about my wife's (also a Pinay) breast cancer diagnosis last year. I blogged about it in a post on my blog dated Jan 7, 2012, so you probably haven't seen it yet, just like I only discovered this post of yours.
I am so glad to hear that you are doing so well and have been cancer-free for 19 years. This is a great post of yours and I do share in your celebration. I hear this all the time from many different women, and I have a close colleague whose mother had breast cancer over 25 years ago and is doing great. My wife is past one year after her mastectomy now, and is doing great and enjoying life. Early detection makes all the difference, and although Asian women in general have lower incidence than Caucasian women here in the U.S., I think there really needs to be better awareness among women in general especially Filipinas, and a major encouragement of yearly mammogram after age 40. So please continue to be a source of inspiration, and continue to speak and tell (ask, preach, nag, bribe, scold, beg, embarass... whatever it takes!) the women you know to get screened and get a mammogram yearly.

Oh, so your wife had it too! Raising my hand to give her my "High five" for having conquered the monster big C! Good for her that she caught it at its earliest stage. I sincerely believe that she also has conquered the dreaded disease. I wish her a continuous fit, healthy and active life.
Yes, hopefully many women out there would be aware of the need for early detection and breast exam. I pray that no woman would ever go through the horrible experience that I went through as a consequence of treatments.

Thank you so much, Beng Gee, I will definitely pass along your high five and warm hug of admiration to my wife. I am sorry to hear you had a horrible experience with the treatments, but you are truly an inspiration . Luckily my wife's DCIS was caught very early and DCIS is by nature stage 0 and not aggressive if caught so she was fortunate thanks to God that she didn't have to undergo chemo and/or radiation, although she did have bilateral mastectomy.
You are indeed a role model and inspiration, and thanks for your courage in blogging about your experience - your actions in speaking about your experience over the past 19 may very well have already saved some lives whether or not you even know it!
